IDENTITY MANAGEMENT REPORT
In the historic center of Berlin, between the Brandenburg Gate and Alexanderplatz, the newly opened Humboldt Forum forms a center for cultures and sciences. The core of the identity management system comes from evolutionID.
An Architectural Highlight
The architecture itself is a highlight. On Museum Island, history and future converge in the reinterpretation of the Berlin Palace, which was blown up in 1950: The faithfully reconstructed Baroque facade has been combined with Franco Stella's contemporary architectural language.
General Director Hartmut Dorgerloh therefore sees the Humboldt Forum as an "international dialogue platform for the questions that concern us in the world today." Dorgerloh promises an "... independent, very broad program ranging from dance, film, music, and discussions to hands-on activities."
The Project's Dimensions
The project's dimensions are evident not only in the construction costs, currently budgeted at 682 million Euros, but also in the gross floor area of over 100,000 square meters. The Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art occupy the largest area, with approximately 14,000 square meters. In total, more than 40,000 square meters of publicly usable space are available, for example, for offices, catering, events, and exhibitions.
The Solution: Web-Based Identity Management with IDfunction
evolutionID was commissioned with the installation and commissioning of a web-based identity management system. The system, based on the established solution IDfunction centrally manages all employee and service provider badges.
Even with this large-scale project, the flexible concept makes identity management significantly simpler and more cost-effective: Via an interface, existing employee master data is easily transferred to the ID management system. Thanks to the consistently web-based approach, required personal photos can be automatically requested and even taken by employees themselves using mobile devices.
The central identity management system manages access to various third-party systems, such as employee lockers and secure compartments. Centralization enables a seamless security system: If an employee leaves the operating company or an ID card is lost, all access, both to the building itself and to all facilities, is blocked with just one click.
Full Service from Consulting to Production
evolutionID took on the entire project, from initial consulting, installation, and commissioning to ongoing service, which also includes the production of ID cards. A secure printing option will also be available in the future.
“Naturally, the Humboldt Forum primarily sees itself as an open house. Precisely for this reason, however, a comprehensive security concept is indispensable. The compatibility of security, usability, cost, and process efficiency is always central to a large public project like the Humboldt Forum. With its stringent and highly scalable system, evolutionID has provided us with optimal support in this crucial area.”

About us
For more than two decades, evolutionID has helped organizations bring clarity and control to identity and access. We focus on what matters most: secure, reliable processes that are simple to operate and built to last.
We bring together Physical Identity & Access Management (PIAM), card and employee management, and RFID‑supported workflows into one coherent approach. Our modular building blocks allow identity and access systems to adapt over time—without disrupting what already works. The result is less complexity, more transparency, and greater confidence in everyday operations.
As a long‑term partner, we guide our customers step by step—from analysis and architecture to implementation, migration, and ongoing support. With teams in Munich, Bonn, and Frankfurt, we work closely with organizations across the DACH region to create access infrastructures that stay secure, stable, and ready for what comes next.
